This week brings good news to The Black Eyed Peas on the Billboard Charts.

Their latest single, “Just Can’t Get Enough” jumps 17 spots to number 5 on this week’s Hot 100 chart.  That is their 7th Top 5 hit, and 2nd from their latest effort, The Beginning. The cut bounds 18-3 on Digital Songs (198,000, up 143%)

On the other hand the album received a 24% increase in sales, somewhere around the 13,000 mark, moving up to number 28 on the Billboard 200.  4,000 of those were digital sales.  Their previous album, The E.N.D. (Energy Never Dies) received a 5% increase to 6,000 copies, 2,000 which were digital.

The Black Eyed Peas’ new album The Beginning is set to debut at number 6 on this weeks Billboard Charts.  According to Hits Daily Double, the album sold around 117,000 copies this week, once numbers come in tomorrow from Soundscan we will have the exact number for you.   In comparison to their massive album The E.N.D. this is a 61% decrease in sales, but lets remember, they had not released an album in 4 years, so people definitely were anxiously waiting for some more pea-music.  Adding onto that, the first single was released months before the album dropped, whereas The Time was released 3 weeks before.

Only time will tell if the album will become a great seller such as their previous 3 efforts have done.  My guess though, they will not have a huge 2nd week drop like most of the albums have after their debut week.  I think it should stay at a constant level.  No matter what, it will definitely become platinum before it has run its course.

GUADALAJARA.- Pop is artistic, and these white tents that become dressing rooms for a day, hold humbleness inside.  When the curtain is rolled down, Fergie is seen.  She’s alone in the dressing room, looking at the candle as its her only ornament in the little white table.  As she notices we’re there, she gives an even wider smile.  She stays seated, extends her hands to say helo and asks if I’m from here, Guadalajara.

-No, I’ve been here less than a day, I come from Buenos Aires.

-That far away? Just for us?

-Just for you… and the Black Eyed Peas.

Fergie has jeans, a shirt, and shoes from her own line.  In a corner of the room, her metallic costume for the show is hanging.  It’s not the only thing she’ll be wearing, though.  At her side and on the floor, an enormous wallet is located that matches her shoes.

-¿Do you remember Buenos Aires? You’ve been there twice with the Peas, right?

-Yes, but to me it was like passing by. It seemed to me like a beautiful city, but I wasn’t able to see much because it’s difficult to travel and visit when you’re on tour.  I’m hoping to have some time to go dancing. .

-It’s usually always said that the last album is the best. Is The E.N.D. (Energy Never Dies) your favorite BEP album?

-Mmm, right now I think its The Beginning, that is the next album. We’re working on it right now and everything seems so new.

The E.N.D. has an esthetic futuristic feel, that’s adapted to the tour.

-Yes, definitely, it’s very futuristic.  and a lot of the songs are about the night, about the clubs and the energy that we let out when we dance.  With the lasers and all that we want the audience to feel like they’re in a club.  And no one’s left sitting once ‘I Gotta Feeling’ starts.

-As a producer, David Guetta is essential to the album…

-He’s an incredible guy.  I’m going out with him tonight.  He has a kid’s spirit… just like us!

Do not expect to see the Black Eyed Peas be the group ruling the nominations at this year’s Grammy Awards, much less expect them to take at least 2 awards with them.  The label of a recording artist is the one in charge of submitting what songs they want considered by the academy to be up for nomination.  This year, the peas’ label only submitted to one category.

The Black Eyed Peas were able to submit Imma Be and Rock That Body, since those two were the only songs released during the Grammy deadline.  While they could’ve gone with Imma Be for Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Pop or even Rap, and Rock That Body for Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Pop or Dance Recording, they opted not to.  The only one submitted to was Best Short Form Music Video for Imma Be Rocking That Body.

Though, you might see Fergie, Will.I.Am or Apl.De.Ap come out with nominations apart from the peas!  The three were submitted various times for the songs Gettin’ Over You, Check It Out, Wavin’ Flag, Spaceship and OMG through the labels of the lead artists of those songs.

We remind you that these are not official nominations! A label submits songs to the Grammy Academy and from the hundreds of songs submitted under each category, they will come out with the 5 nominated songs/albums/videos in about 2 months.

Here are the complete submissions for Black Eyed Peas, Fergie, Will.I.Am, and Apl.De.Ap:

Record of the Year

  • David Guetta & Chris Willis feat. Fergie & LMFAO – Gettin’ Over You
  • Usher feat. Will.I.Am – OMG
  • K’Naan feat. Will.i.am & David Guetta – Wavin’ Flag

Song of the Year

  • David Guetta & Chris Willis feat. Fergie & LMFAO – Gettin’ Over You
  • Usher feat. Will.I.Am – OMG
  • K’Naan feat. Will.i.am & David Guetta – Wavin’ Flag

Last night, over 75 thousand souls couldn’t resist the rhythm of The Black Eyed Peas.  Children accompanied by their parents, groups of teens, couples of all ages, and even some that were simply curious, were up for the performance of the Californian quartet formed by Will.i.am, apl.de.ap, Taboo and Fergie at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.  The biggest stadium in Mexico, all Latin America and fifth in the world.

The music of The Black Eyed Peas wakes up in its fans diverse reactions: adrenaline, happiness, desire to dance, tears of joy, and even sexual desire; that’s what happened last night.

To the chant of “¡México, México!”, the audience was getting ready to welcome their idols, who visited the country for their fourth time.

“México, ¿qué onda México?¿Dónde están mis chilangos y poblanos? Mi nombre es Taboo (Mexico, What’s up Mexico? Where are my chilangos and pueblans?” My name is Taboo)”, said Jaime Luis Gómez, Taboo.

With a visual spectacle that included laser lights, LED screens, a stage many meters long, located at the middle of the field of the Estadio Azteca, The Black Eyed Peas started with “Lets Get It Started”, releasing euphoria from the audience, which at all moments took the peas with open arms.

Through the set-list of the acclaimed Angelinan band, songs like “Rock That Body”, “Meet Me Halfway” and “Don’t Phunk With My Heart” were sung.

People, anxiously, waited for the group to perform songs such as “Party All The Time”, “Pump It” and what very well may be their biggest hit, “I Gotta Feeling”, song that turned the crowd wild.

To the Mexicans, October 2nd represents a hurtful chapter in history when in 1968 many students were killed in Tlatelolco, but for the Black Eyed Peas this day will stay in their hearts, as they remember that on that date, but in 2010, they conquered the Estadio Azteca.

Even though violence has considerably increased in Mexico throughout the past couple of years, Taboo, a Mexican-American stated he is not worried.

“I am mexican, so I don’t give a…”, he said in spanish through a telephone interview. “I am part of this culture and I’m not going to be scared of it”.

Days before his performances at Monterrey’s Estadio Tecnológico (past Thursday), Estadio Azteca in Mexico City (today) and Estadio 3 de Marzo of Guadalajara (October 6), Taboo assured to feel calm, since he considers his Mexican roots help him mix in with the people of the country.  ”If I were a ‘gringo’ I’d be worried, but I’m Mexican, my roots are Mexican”, he commented.

“I can put on a ’sombrero’ and some sunglasses, and no one will ever know it’s me”.

But for the rest of the Peas, it’s not as simple, and they should feel a bit preoccupied.

“It’s different for them, because Fergie is white, Will.I.Am black and Apl.De.Ap has a mohawk, so it might be a bit difficult to mix into Mexico, but for me it’s much easier”.

Though, Taboo assures the The Black Eyed Peas are in Mexico to have  fun.

“Were just here to have a good time, we won’t visit dangerous ares, we will stay nearby.”

HE WONT GET INVOLVED WITH NARCS

Taboo spoke up against Arizona’s SB 1070 law, but he is not willing to do the same against narcotraffic (drug cartels) in Mexico.
